How to Find, Download, and Install HP Drivers

HP is the largest manufacturer of computers and computer hardware on the planet.  The following guide will show you how to troubleshoot, find, download, and install HP drivers to your computer.

How to Check for HP Driver Problems on Your Computer

Not sure if your problem is due to a driver?  Check with the Windows Device Manager. You can usually find this via the Control Panel (sometimes you will need to double-click on "System", and then click on the "Hardware" tab if a new window pops up).

The Device Manager will show you the different hardware categories on your computer.  For our example, we will choose an HP printer driver.

How to Navigate the Hewlett Packard Website

You should go to the manufacturer's website at www.hp.com  Click on "Support & Drivers" in the menu bar at the top of the page.  To download your HP driver or update, click the button next to "Download drivers and software".

Select a Task

After this, you can choose various options in Step 2.  From here, you can enter your product make and model (which you might be able to find via the Device Manager).

If you're not sure, you can select a product category instead.  This will take you to a new page where you can narrow down your options to find the right HP driver.

Once you have found the right driver, you will end up on a page that contains various information and system requirements.  You may wish to double-check that your computer meets all the specifications.  Alternatively, you may simply wish to download what you need and see if it works.

Click "Download Only" to begin the process.  If you are given the choice, save it on your desktop or other easy-to-find place.

How to Install Your HP Driver

Double-click on the file you just downloaded, and then click "Run" when given the option.  You may need to download WinRAR or 7Zip to open the file if your computer doesn't automatically open it (these programs are free).

HP drivers install easily because of the Setup Wizard that will walk you through the process.  You will want to select "Traditional Install" if you are given the option.  You will need to restart your computer to make sure your new driver functions properly.
